Is it recommendable to replace my 128Mb video card for a 1Gb video card?

i have:

a dell 21inch monitor

1Gb RAM

Intel Inside Pentium 4

I'm into:

softwares

imaging

gaming

music (i use visual softwares for this)

*and i plan to install a TV card so i can use my 21inch monitor as a TV so i can save space in my room

i think i will use Asus Video card because my 128Mb was an Asus and it worked well.,|||NOT recommended. Will just burn a hole in your wallet without giving noticeable performance gain over 512mb videoram.|||What is the main reason for wanting to replace your video card?

If you will to shell out over $300 dollars for one then yeah, but if your into gaming you would do fine with a 512mb card. 1gb cards are quite a new thing and to be honest there is really no need to buy one just yet|||Well getting an 512 mb nvidia chipset will work, there is really no need to buy a 1Gb card. 512 will work perfect.

personally i have 256 mb agp card and its working great for games and heavy duty graphical softwares.|||One thing i'll tell is any videocard of above 512 MB will make no difference i.e they do not increase performance any more. There are less games and softwares that utilize anything more than 512 MB RAM.

If ur going to install tv-tuner card u must remember that they are resource hog i.e they consume a lot of cpu power to capture and record videos whereas for viewing tv even a 266 Mhz processor can do.

do not invest in a 1GB videocard, hav any Nvidia card 8800GTX which supports the upcoming directx 10|||hey man i thing u live in Bangladesh or India.becauseof only Asus. it is chep but not good 100% but 80%

and 128 vga is good bat|||yes|||The amount of RAM a video card has does not matter as much as some of the other features it has. You will probably be fine with a 256mb video card. I'm going to guess you have an AGP slot since you still have a P4. I'm going to reccomend an nVidia 7600GT video card. It should cost around $100 and should be great for doing a lot of things. You could go for a card that has 512mb of RAM such as the ATi x1650 but this card is slow and you won't notice a difference in RAM. You will start noticing a difference in the high 7 and 8 series of nvidia cards. Since you have a 21in monitor, you might be running a high resolution and more video memory is reccomened for that.
