goto sony vaio website and locate ur model sony vaio rb vgc-rb42g and check their compatability for safer side but as far as hardware support is concerened its all yours and it ll work fine...|||as long as you get the PCI-EXPRESS version of the card it was available in 3 formats over the span of the chipsets life
