128MB Video Card with 700MB of RAM?

Would a new 128MB Video Card work with my 700MB of RAM?

I generally only use 2 programs at once. (If even that)|||You have not told us why you want to upgrade the video card. This system will NOT play games well. It won't even if you add the card.

Telling us you are using only 2 programs at a time doesn't tell us anything. It depends on what type programs they are. You could have several DOZEN instances of wordpad open and it would use less resources than one game, movie or cad program.

You have not told us what type system you're using. But NO computer ships with 700M ramm. You probably have 1G and hardware virtualization is reserving 300M.

It would be FAR more advantageous to add more ramm FIRST. Because hardware is virtualized in memory, your system will actually run SLOWER with the new card. However, if you upgraded to 2G or 4G, and add a 128 video card, it COULD be a good idea. A 128 M card is NOT going to do much for you. Most integrated video solutions can do just as well so it is NOT an upgrade.

It is very unusual for a system to be shipped with only 1G of ramm unless it is a very low end system. Adding a video card won't help the system much. Adding extra ramm WOULD be a very good idea, whether or not you upgrade the vid. If you add the ramm in matched pairs, almost all computers will run in dual channel mode which will make your system operate MUCH faster

If you have a low end laptop or a netbook, you can NOT add a video card. You can on a desktop system|||Your graphics card has almost nothing to do with your RAM if you're looking at compatibility. check if you have the correct port (empty) in your motherboard. If you do, then you should be able to use the video card. In other words, video card memory and Ram don't depend on each other.|||It depends if that video card with 128mb would work with your computer. The more Ram you have the better as well. That video car just means that you have 128mb dedicated to video output and you can also allow it to use some of your ram as well for better performance. If you aren't running video intensive programs or editors you should be fine running multiple programs at the same time. Some computers run 512 mb Ram and no dedicated ram for their video cards and run multiple programs and it works fine. Hope this helps.
